The Theory of Mulitple Intelligence was developed by Dr. Howard Gardner, Professor of Education at Harvard University. Gardner proposes eight different intelligences to account for a broader range of learning styles. We have blended our knowledge of how young children communicate and learn with Gardner's Multiple Intelligence theory and created MILO, a Multiple Intelligence, Learning Opportunity toy. Based on these eight intelligences, MILO's pockets reveal activities that encourage the intelligence it's representing. When playing with MILO, children are in the driver's seat. This successful method of play helps therapists and teachers discover childrens' interests and strenghten developing skills.

Here's a brief description of the eight intelligences. Think about your interests and strengths. What kind of learner are you?

Nature Smart (Naturalistic Intelligence) Interest in nature or animals; enjoys outdoor activities.

Word Smart (Linguistic Intelligence) Interest in words and language; enjoys listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Music Smart (Musical Intelligence) Interest in music, rhythm, instruments; enjoys listening to music and singing.

People Smart (Interpersonal Intelligence) Interest in communicating with others; enjoys pretend play, group activities.

Math Smart (Logical Intelligence) Interest in numbers, patterns and shapes; enjoys counting, sorting, experimenting.

Body Smart (Kinesthetic Intelligence) Interest in physical movement; enjoys sports, dancing, building.

Picture Smart (Spatial Intelligence) Interest in visualization and creating imagery; enjoys painting, puzzles, drawing.

Self Smart (Intrapersonal Intelligence) Interest in understanding emotions; enjoys self-reflection, facial expressions.
